What we collect

Your email address, so we can send your sign-in code and your reports, and so your reports are saved to you.

The text of the chat you upload: senders' names, message text and timestamps. From a WhatsApp export we upload only the chat's text; photos, videos and voice notes stay on your device. From a screen recording, the video stays on your device; we upload screenshots of the chat, read them, and delete them straight away.

What you tell us in the wizard (chat type, cleaned-up names, which person is you, report language) and any note you add for a follow-up report.

The reports we write, and payment records (amount, currency, status). Card details go to Stripe, never to us.

Basic usage analytics (pages visited, steps completed) linked to a pseudonymous ID. Analytics never include chat content, names or your email address.

Why we use it

To read your chat, compute its statistics and write the reports you ask for; to sign you in; to take payment; to send transactional emails (codes, report ready); and, unless you unsubscribe, one discount email about an unpaid report.

We don't sell your data and don't use your chat for advertising. We don't train AI models on your chat.

Who helps us (processors)

Amazon Web Services (hosting and storage, United States).

OpenAI (writing reports and reading screen recordings, United States). OpenAI doesn't use data sent through its API to train its models.

Stripe (payments), Resend (email delivery), PostHog (product analytics).

Your data may be processed outside Canada, including in the United States.

How long we keep it

The uploaded chat and its messages: deleted automatically 7 days after upload if you don't buy a report, otherwise 90 days after your latest report, purchase or newer upload.

Reports and chat statistics: until you delete them or your account.

Your email and payment records: as long as your account exists, and longer where the law requires (for example tax records).

Your choices

Delete the uploaded chat, any report, or a whole conversation from your account at any time.

Ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete your account: email support@spillmychat.com.

Unsubscribe from the discount email with the link in it; codes and report emails still arrive.

Other people in your chat

A chat includes other people's messages. Only upload chats you're part of, and think about how the people in it would feel. Report links can be read by anyone you share them with.

Cookies

A session cookie keeps you signed in (30 days). A visitor cookie keeps your price consistent. Analytics cookies help us improve the product.

Security

Chats are encrypted in transit and at rest, access is limited to the services that need it, and report pages aren't indexed by search engines.

Children

Spill My Chat is for people aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

If we change this policy we'll update this page and the date above, and tell you by email about significant changes.
